First things first - it's my birthday today! Woo! I have to admit the only reason why I remember is because of all the messages I received about it. I tend to forget my own birthday, for some reason.
So thank you so much, everyone. It's much appreciated.
Moving on! As some people probably have realized from all the photos I've been uploading, I've been to California and stalked my good friend ~Marimokun
few reels for three weeks. It was a glorious time, let me tell you! It was filled a lot of adventures - most of them very nerdy (what else would you expect from two nerds meeting up?). Among other things, we traveled to San Diego and saw the Star Trek exhibition, visited the mall used in the Back to the Future movies as the Twin/Lone Pine Mall, went on a ton of roller coasters on Knott's Berry farm, went to a market filled with fandom-y stuff (sadly the venue lacked air con, so we didn't stay too long) and finished off my visited by attending Anime Expo.
Oh, and we left the words "Bad Wolf" wherever we could.
In other words, I have waaaaaaay too many things to tell you about in one journal (it was, after all, three weeks of constant adventures), so I probably shouldn't even try.
I do have to tell you about AX, though, since...well, it IS a convention, after all.
AX is, hands down, the biggest convention I've ever been to and about ten times bigger than the biggest convention in Sweden. It was quite a shock to see the amount of people there, to be honest.
And yet, in spite of that, the first thing I did upon entering the venue was bumping into ~Lil-Kute-Dream
(hi!). AX also marked the first con of ~Marimokun
's sister. She'd never been to one but decided to tag along for the ride and it was lovely to have her there.
The first day of AX (with me dressed as the tenth Doctor, ~Marimokun
as Tails from Sonic and M's sister as the eleventh Doctor) was spent walking (and I do mean "walking" - constantly and constantly walking) in line for our badges for three hours. Most of the time in direct sunlight. I almost wish I hadn't been dressed as the Doctor at the time. *laughs* It. Was. Warm.
Second day saw us wandering around as BBC's Sherlock's Sherlock (~Marimokun
), Molly (M's sister) and me as John. And for those who've seen my comments about it - no I never really thought I'd cosplay from Sherlock. While I do enjoy the show, it's not a favorite of mine and not one I normally would cosplay from. But, well, M asked me to join her, so I did. And it was loads of fun. Not regretting that in the least! I just wish my wig hadn't been so very fluffy...
Day three was the day both M and I had really been looking forward to, though. We'd made up plans in secret - I managed to hunt down some things for a Rose costume and I spent part of my time in the US frantically sewing up a tenth Doctor suit for M to wear. And the Saturday was the big premier of the costumes. I'm obviously very biased, but we both ended up looking pretty darn snazzy! Oddly enough, people didn't recognize us a whole lot (and someone even thought I was a femme!Nine
) but it was so much fun. While M and I had our adventures in anonymity, M's sister spent the day scowling at us as Sherlock. I almost made her into a gentleman by the end of it, though! Unfortunately, she had to leave early, though...
The last and final day, M and I spent the morning walking around as Ten and Eleven before deciding to change into Ten and Rose again...and we got a lot more attention then, which is a bit funny.
The highlight of the day must be when I managed to make M try to get her banana back. Her reflexes aren't what they were.
Aaaaand that concludes my very, VERY abridged story of what I did during my time in Cali. If you want to know more, feel free to ask about it.
